Stevenson stops Gonzalez in 2nd second round

MONTREAL (AP) — Canadian left-hander Adonis Stevenson stopped Uruguay’s Noe Gonzalez at 1:40 of the second round Friday night in a scheduled 12-round super-middleweight bout at Bell Centre.

The 34-year-old Stevenson, from nearby Longueuil, improved to 18-1, successfully defending his minor NABA, NABO and IBF Intercontinental titles and taking the WBC Silver belt from Gonzalez (28-2).

Earlier, Colombian light-heavyweight Eleider Alvarez outpointed American Rayco Saunders in an eight-round fight. The Montreal-based Alvarez improved to 8-0, and Saunders fell to 22-16-2.
