SEATTLE (AP) — A machine digging a tunnel for a Sound Transit light rail line crosses another tricky point Monday night as it passes under Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle.
The tunnel will be just 15 feet below the express lanes.
Sound Transit spokesman Bruce Gray says the tunnel will be in the area below Pine Street near the Paramount Theater.
This is the second pass for the boring machine, which completed a crossing under the freeway in November.
The twin 3-mile tunnels will link the University of Washington and Capitol Hill to the existing light rail tunnel in downtown Seattle. Service on the $1.8 billion extension should start in 2016.
