Letter: Take advantage of railroad bridge

The Columbian
Published: April 24, 2012, 5:00pm

Why do we need light rail to Portland? Amtrak has trains that run from Vancouver to Portland. Unfortunately, there are not enough morning scheduled runs so we need to get Amtrak to add daily commuter trips from Vancouver to the Portland terminal to carry passengers. Amtrak carries passengers all over the USA to work and home every day, so why can’t they add routes from Vancouver to Portland to take commuters who do not want to drive?

The railroad bridge across the Columbia River has two tracks. We don’t need light rail on the Interstate 5 bridge; we need to use the existing railroad bridge to move people back and forth.
