NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — It’s a big day for the aeronautics industry in South Carolina. Boeing is rolling out the first if its 787 airliners made at its new $750 million assembly plant in North Charleston.
Elected officials and company representatives are gathering for the roll out.
The first new plane is being sold to Air India. But plant vice president and general manager Jack Jones said it has nothing to do with honoring Gov. Nikki Haley who is of Indian descent and is a big booster of the industry in the state. He says that’s just the way the orders arrived.
The plant should turn out four aircraft by year’s end and should be manufacturing about nearly four a month by the end of 2013.
