Former forest nursery complex near Ridgefield being auctioned

A former forest nursery on 7.2 acres near Ridgefield, complete with greenhouses, a home and warehouse space, is up for auction.

The nursery complex, now unused and in need of upgrade, is being sold by Northwest Farm Credit Services. The minimum bid is $345,000, well below the most recent asking price of $540,000.

Realty Marketing/Northwest, with offices in Portland, is managing the auction. John Rosenthal, president of the auction firm, said the property stands out because of its large buildings that could be put to re-use, as well as land that could be cultivated for organic or hobby farming, or used for horses. “We haven’t sold anything quite like this,” he said.

The 26,000 square-foot nursery had been used to cultivate seedlings for forestland restoration, Rosenthal said. The property, nine miles north of Vancouver and three miles west of Interstate 5 near Ridgefield, has good access to markets, he said. Open houses are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 8. Sealed bids are due May 16.

Information about the property is available at the Realty Marketing/Northwest website. The nursery is listed as Property #113.
