Vancouver native Kara Patterson recorded the best mark in the women’s javelin at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
Patterson, a Skyview graduate who trains in Southern California, finished with a top throw of 185 feet, 7 inches.
“Consistent day at a distance I’m not thrilled with into the worst wind I’ve ever competed in,” Patterson wrote on Twitter. “But big things are coming this year.”
Brittany Borman, a senior at the University of Oklahoma, had the next-best distance at 179 feet. Borman has the best mark by an American thrower this year at 194-11, while Patterson ranks second at 194-2.
