LOS ANGELES (AP) — A sailing association says a yacht apparently collided with a much larger vessel during a race off the coasts of California and Mexico, killing three crew members and left one missing.

The Newport Ocean Sailing Association was hosting the 125-mile Newport, Calif. to Ensenada, Mexico yacht race when the collision occurred several miles off the coast near the border.

Association spokesman Rich Roberts says in a news release early Sunday that an investigation is ongoing but it appears that the 37-foot Aegean collided with a much larger ship.

There were no more details on the other vessel.

The Coast Guard says the search for the missing crew member was continuing early Sunday morning.
