SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has canceled his events this week so he can travel to Washington.

Spokesman Tim Raphael says the governor will work with federal officials on finalizing Oregon’s application for a waiver from standard Medicaid regulations. The waiver is needed for the state to implement a plan to overhaul the Oregon Health Plan.

The governor wants to create new coordinated care organizations to oversee mental, physical and dental care for 600,000 low-income patients.

Kitzhaber’s office says a planned two-day trip to the coast will be rescheduled. The governor also canceled plans to give a speech in Portland on Wednesday and hold a news conference on Thursday.
