VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A teen boy in Washington state is being hailed as a hero for pulling an 18-month-old child from the second floor roof of an apartment building moments after his 2-year-old brother fell into a flower bed.

The 2-year-old is home after a visit to a Vancouver hospital.

The Clark County sheriff’s office says the boys were supposed to be napping in their third-floor apartment Sunday when they climbed through a damaged screen onto a roof.

The 13-year-old boy was playing football nearby when he heard the thud of the first child hitting the ground.

Deputies say Damon Davenport saw the other boy on the same slanted roof — on the edge of an 18-foot fall. They say Davenport ran upstairs, tore through a screen and rescued the baby.
