Columbia Little League beats Montana stars

The tournament host Columbia All-Stars opened scoring in the top of the first inning, never trailed and gradually pulled away for a 7-1 victory over their Montana opponents Friday at the Little League Junior Regional baseball tournament at Propstra Stadium.

The tournament for players ages 13-14, continues through Aug. 8 with the winner advancing to the World Series in Taylor, Mich.

Columbia scored 10 runs in the seventh inning of a 16-4 victory late Thursday night over the Carson City All-Stars of Nevada.

In other games Friday:

• Murrayhill of Beaverton, Ore., outscored North Boise of Idaho 2-1 in the seventh inning for an 11-10 win.

• Central East Maui of Hawai’i scored 10 runs in the third and fourth innings of an 11-0 win over Upper Valley of Naches.

• Cedar City, Utah, scored three runs in the fourth to overcome a 6-5 deficit to Yuma, Ariz., and held on to win, 8-6.

Babe Ruth

There was no report from the Pacific Northwest Babe Ruth 13-15 Regional baseball tournament in Kelso.

KWRL, the combined team of Kalama-Woodland-Ridgefield-La Center, beat Mudcats of Idaho 13-2 on Thursday. KWRL scored three runs in the first inning and led 10-0 in the fourth.

The top two teams from each pool play in Saturday’s semifinals with the championship later Saturday. The champion advances to the Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series at Van Buren, Ark.
