EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Market Share has won the $1.5 million Hambletonian at the Meadowlands Racetrack, putting Linda Toscano in the record book as the first female trainer to win trotting’s premier race.

Market Share stormed to the front at the top of the stretch, then held off two late closers to win the race for 3-year-old trotting colts on Saturday.

Toscano had one of the favorites last year in Chapter Seven, but the horse finished fourth. It was also the first Hambletonian victory for driver Tim Tetrick, one of the most successful drivers in the history of harness racing.

Market Share ($10.80), a New Jersey bred who was a $16,000 purchase as a yearling, went off as the second choice at 4-1. The winning time was 1:52.1.
