SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Brian Kelly tweaked Notre Dame’s practice on the first day of camp to help speed up the process of picking a starting quarterback.

Andrew Hendrix, Everett Golson and freshman Gunner Kiel are competing to start the opener in Dublin, Ireland, against Navy on Sept. 1.

Tommy Rees, last year’s starter, will serve a one-game suspension to start the season following his arrest this summer on an underage drinking charge.

Kelly says he will be devoting more practice time to the full offense scrimmaging the full defense. He said he hopes the change will help him find starters throughout an offense that lacks experience in some key positions.
