The chemical industry has done a disservice to Americans by promoting a number of products as safe, particularly products that get into the hands of our children. That is why I am pleased to see Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., co-sponsor the Safe Chemicals Act.
The Safe Chemicals Act, which recently passed the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, is the first time in 36 years that our Congress has addressed our out-of-date chemical safety laws.
Protecting our reproductive health and the environment should be a key concern for all of us. Pregnant women and children who encounter these harmful chemicals face increased chances of encountering health problems from diabetes to attention deficit disorder.
Let's encourage our House and Senate to pass this bill, and put our health over profits.
