Battle Ground — The 50 best skaters in the Pacific Northwest engaged in friendly war at Battle Ground’s skatepark July 28. The Red Bull Rivals Skate competition squared off two handpicked teams — Washington vs. Oregon — and drew more than 300 spectators. There were three judges from each state, plus impartial pro skateboarder Corbin Harris. While Oregon won one event, Washington dominated the day and came away with the prize: materials to expand and improve a homegrown skatepark in Marginal Way. The Washington team also offered the olive branch by donating a portion of its prize to the Brooklyn skatepark in Portland.
