KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — The PGA Championship is under way Thursday under mostly clear skies at Kiawah Island.

Rain earlier in the week forced players to scramble while preparing for the opening round on the Ocean Course, and more thunderstorms are possible later Thursday and throughout the tournament. Kelly Mitchum, D.A. Points and Marcel Siem are in the first group on the front nine.

Tiger Woods, trying for his 15th major championship and first since 2008, is scheduled to start on No. 10 later in the morning with defending champion Keegan Bradley and Martin Kaymer.

This year’s three major champions — Bubba Watson (Masters), Webb Simpson (U.S. Open) and Ernie Els (British Open) — will play together.
