A motorcyclist was in critical condition at PeaceHealth Southwest after crashing into a tree in a Vancouver neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

Around 1:50 p.m., Kenneth Norris of Vancouver was attempting a wheelie for friends in the 300 block of Southeast 157th Avenue, said Vancouver Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp. As the 25-year-old drove northbound on 157th, he lost control of his 2003 Suzuki GSXR 1000 and tried to stop, but the motorcycle slid onto its side and into a tree. Norris was thrown from his motorcycle.

A neighbor who heard the crash called 911. Norris, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was conscious and talking to police when they arrived. He was later transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical and was cited for reckless driving.

Vancouver Fire and AMR also responded to the scene of the collision.
