Letter: What about other landowners?

The Columbian
Published: August 9, 2012, 5:00pm

I applaud the Aug. 5 Columbian story “O’Brady’s on edge at Dollars Corner” on O’Brady’s drive-in restaurant, but I would like a reporter to go further than that. Write a piece on all of the other people getting forced off of their land because the Washington State Department of Transportation wants space for its state Highway 502 project.

In my not-so-humble opinion, WADOT officials are not dishonest, just politicians who waited until their deadline was almost up, so that they could claim eminent domain, condemn properties and purchase them for less than they would have otherwise had to pay if they negotiated more fully. I nominate WADOT for a “jeers” for its underhanded contempt for the owners of the land it wants.
