CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians designated hitter Travis Hafner has had an injection in his lower back.

Trainer Lonnie Soloff said the procedure was done Friday to help relieve lower back inflammation. The 35-year-old Hafner went to the disabled list for the ninth time in his career Thursday. There is no timetable for his return.

Second baseman Jason Kipnis missed his second straight start with a sore neck, while left-handed reliever Rafael Perez, out since April 26 with a sore shoulder, is scheduled to pitch a rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

Hafner missed nearly five weeks after right knee surgery in May. He hasn’t had a full season since 2007 due to injuries and has hit .239 with 11 homers and 32 RBIs in 60 games this year.
