Saturday, August 11, 2012
LONDON (AP) -- Light flyweight Zou Shiming of China won his second straight Olympic boxing gold medal on Saturday night, beating Thailand's Kaeo Pongprayoon 13-10.
Zou defended his gold medal from Beijing, the first light flyweight to accomplish the feat. He is a three-time Olympic medalist, also winning a bronze in Athens eight years ago.
Zou was the first boxing gold medalist in China's history.
Pongprayoon vehemently protested the result, flopping to the canvas in pain and anger. The Thai boxer was hit with a two-point penalty for an unclear offense with 9 seconds left in the bout, increasing Zou's margin of victory.
