Vancouver firefighters Monday morning extinguished a garage fire at 1809 Kauffman Ave. The cause is under investigation.
The fire, reported about 7:40 a.m., was in a detached garage. It caused an estimated $10,000 damage, according to Vancouver Fire Capt. Kevin Murray. The garage was fully involved when firefighters arrived; they attacked it from the outside while protecting the nearby house and other neighboring property.
Firefighters temporarily closed one block of Kauffman Avenue to make room for trucks and equipment.
It is not known whether the fire is related in any way to a shooting and police standoff that occurred earlier Monday, but all the incidents occurred within a few blocks. Police will investigate any possible connection.
The home, apparently used as a rental, is owned by Linda Haring, according to county property records.
