MOUNT VERNON — A Washington State Patrol car struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday night on the Interstate 5 offramp at Mount Vernon.
The patrol said the trooper was exiting I-5 at 9:45 p.m. when he hit the 26-year-old man, who died at the scene.
Trooper Keith Leary told KOMO that the trooper was shaken but not injured. He’s on leave while the patrol and Mount Vernon police investigation.
Leary called the death a tragic accident and said, “Our hearts go out to that family.”
