Letter: Small price to pay for exploration

While I respect Ralph W. Burke's lack of euphoria for the NASA Curiosity Lander project in his Aug. 11 letter, "Make Mars our next ally," his objection to its cost requires perspective. The total project cost would finance approximately one week of our adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.
