A section of the popular Cape Horn trail will see a single-day closure in the near future, but trail managers don’t know exactly when, and may not give any notice ahead of time.

Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area officials will close the trail for the installation of a new log bridge near Cape Horn Falls. A helicopter will fly the bridge in, an operation that’s extremely weather-dependent. Crews may complete the installation “with little or no notice,” according to the scenic area, which manages the trail.

Officials plan to install the bridge between Aug. 20 and Nov. 1. The closure will last up to six hours, and the affected section of the trail will be cleared of hikers before the helicopter flight happens, according to the scenic area. Cape Horn Falls is located on the south side of state Highway 14.
