Large restaurant chains experiment with trucks

Portland — Could a Jack in the Box cart soon pull up next to Nong’s Khao Man Gai cart in downtown Portland? How about a Taco Bell truck next to the Taqueria Lindo Michoacan cart on Southeast Division Street? Or a mobile Applebee’s parked in front of North Portland’s Mississippi Marketplace cart pod.

According to a recent Adweek story, “Sizzler Has a Food Truck. Sorry, Hipsters,” those national chains and others — including Chick-fil-A, Sizzler and Red Robin — have rolled out or are experimenting with food trucks.

Carl’s Jr. launched its ” Star Diner ” food truck in 1990 and currently operates eight units. Burgerville, the Vancouver-based chain, has run its Nomad, a burger truck, since 2009.
