Letter: Consumers abuse return policies

Published:

I shop for groceries just as well as the next person, but more than once I've seen people actually return food to a store and get their money back. I'm not talking about something spoiled or a recalled item but open packages of cookies, meat, vegetables, etc. Stores can't even give these items to a food bank.

The other day I saw a person return potted flowers. The reason? She didn't know how to take care of them. My thought is this. If you don't want the merchandise, don't buy it in the first place. Stores lose money, causing prices to rise, and that gets passed on to all of us. Think before you buy.
