DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — Organizers of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge estimate that more than 1 million people will line Colorado roads this week to watch some of the world’s top cyclists.

The nearly 700-mile race started Monday morning in Durango. Cyclists are riding through Mancos and Dolores, over Lizard Head Pass and ending in Telluride.

The Durango Herald (bit.ly/OQxr4X) reports that it’s the biggest event the city has ever hosted. City manager Ron Le-Blanc encouraged people to show up along the route, make a lot of noise and wear a costume, if possible.

The race ends Sunday in Denver.
