NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Geneo (JEE’-no) Grissom sensed an opportunity to play a bigger role for No. 4 Oklahoma, and he’s making the most of it.

When the Sooners had two senior tight ends finish their careers last season and an up-and-coming prospect decided to transfer, Grissom realized there was a depth issue brewing. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive end thought he might be able to help.

After spring practice, Grissom approached coach Bob Stoops to see if he could switch to offense. Stoops went along with it, and now Grissom could be in line to start at tight end when the Sooners open their season Sept. 1 at UTEP.

Grissom says he still has a lot of learning to do, especially when it comes to run blocking, but he’s pleased with his decision.
