The Clark County Sheriff’s Office identified a driver who was injured in a Thursday rollover accident near Battle Ground.

Michael Statts, 36, of Battle Ground was driving his Toyota 4Runner west on Northeast 244th Street while attempting to link his handheld wireless device with the vehicle’s stereo system, according to a sheriff’s office report.

The 4Runner crashed into a mailbox and a couple of trees on the opposite side of the road, just missing a utility pole, according to Deputy Chief Scott Sorenson with Fire District 3. The vehicle then pitched sideways, back onto the road, and landed on its top.

Statts was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for minor injuries, treated and later released. He will be cited for driving while using a handheld electronic device.

This incident is being investigated by the sheriff’s office.
