Smith: Davis to face contact in scrimmage

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas coach John L. Smith says running back Knile Davis will take part in his first full-contact scrimmage when the No. 10 Razorbacks take part in a mock game Friday.

Davis, who missed all of last season with an ankle injury, has taken part in preseason practices this month but has yet to take part in a full-contact scrimmage.

Smith said early in the summer that he expected Davis to face full contact prior to Arkansas’ season opener against Jacksonville State on Sept. 1. However, he now admits he changed his mind and had planned on keeping Davis out of full contact until the opener — until Davis recently “vetoed” him.

Friday’s practice is closed, and Smith says he isn’t sure how many carries Davis will get.
