A grass fire burned a 100 by 100 foot area and briefly threatened a home in Southeast Vancouver early Friday evening, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

The fire was reported just after 6 p.m. in a field in the 10300 block of Southeast French Road, north of state Highway 14 west of Southeast Ellsworth Road, said Vancouver Fire Department Capt. Kevin Murray.

The fire burned part of a fence but was brought under control before it could reach a nearby home, Murray said. He said one fire engine and one brush rig responded.

The cause of the fire had not been determined, and crews were still mopping up an hour later.
