GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida’s quarterback competition will stretch into the season.

Coach Will Muschamp says both Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel will play in next weekend’s season opener against Bowling Green.

Muschamp says he hasn’t decided on a starter and hasn’t determined how game repetitions will be split. But he believes “both deserve the right to play.”

Muschamp adds that the sophomores will essentially compete on game day and “see if there is some separation. I think that’s the next step.”

Brissett completed 46 percent of his passes for 206 yards, with two touchdowns and four interceptions last season. Driskel completed 47 percent of his passes for 148 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Driskel is still recovering from a shoulder injury and should be cleared for contact next week.
