PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates selected the contract of first baseman Jeff Clement from their Triple-A team and claimed reliever Hisanori Takahashi off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.

The Pirates optioned infielder Yamaico Navarro to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room for Clement on the roster prior to their game against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday night.

A corresponding move will be made once Takahashi, a left-hander, reports to the team.

Clement hit .276 with 16 home runs, 57 RBIs and an International League-leading 35 doubles in Triple-A this season. A former No. 3 overall draft pick by the Seattle Mariners, he has not appeared in the majors since Aug. 20, 2010.

Takahashi, 37, went 0-3 with a 4.93 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 42 innings over 42 games this year for the Angels. He was scored upon once in his final seven appearances with Los Angeles before being optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Aug. 19.

Takahashi has a 3.80 ERA over three major league seasons with the New York Mets and Angels.
