Browns’ Weeden working on ball security

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden knows he needs to get a grip.

Weeden has already fumbled three times during the exhibition season, losing the ball twice and costing Cleveland points with his turnovers. In Friday’s 27-10 loss to Philadelphia, Weeden fumbled twice in the first quarter. The first one wasn’t his fault as his protection broke down on a botched screen pass. Weeden acknowledged the second fumble, which was recovered by the Browns, was because he didn’t secure the ball while in the pocket.

Weeden rarely fumbled at Oklahoma State, where he typically lined up in the shotgun formation and was rarely under much pressure from a pass rush. Weeden said he needs to have a “death grip” on the ball to avoid turnovers.
