Camas police arrest man on suspicion of assault

An Oregon man has been arrested for suspected first-degree assault after cutting a Camas resident during a drug transaction gone wrong Sunday afternoon, police said.

Around 12:50 p.m. Sunday, Camas police responded to reports of an assault with a knife in the parking lot of the Walgreens at 3328 N.E. Third Ave. When police arrived they found the victim with a large laceration on his left forearm. The suspect had left in a black Jeep.

The Jeep was later found by Washougal police on state Highway 14 in Washougal. The suspect, Mario M. Peña, 53, of Cascade Locks, Ore., was found and taken into custody. He was sent to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for an unrelated health problem. Once released, Peña will be transported to the Clark County Jail.
