KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Sporting Kansas City’s Kei Kamara delivered on a brilliant header in the opening minutes Sunday night, and then gave it back with an own-goal moments later for the only scoring in a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls.

Kamara’s goal was his fifth in the past 10 MLS games for Sporting KC (14-7-5), which remains just ahead of New York in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Red Bulls (13-7-6) played without forward Thierry Henry, whose wife gave birth to a son Friday, and they sorely lacked his offense. New York managed only three shots and none on goal.

It was the first of three games that the conference contenders will play over the next two months, and the only one in Kansas City.
