NEW ORLEANS (AP) — With tropical weather approaching southeast Louisiana, the Tulane football team has headed to Birmingham, Ala., where it plans to practice at least through Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Nicholls State has suspended operations through Wednesday, losing several days of practice before its season opener at Oregon State this Saturday.

Nicholls coach Charlie Stubbs says he hopes damage from Isaac will be minimal enough to allow the Colonels to practice at their Thibodaux campus Thursday before their scheduled flight out of New Orleans on Friday.

Tulane, which opens Saturday at home against Rutgers, hopes to return to New Orleans on Thursday as well.

At LSU, cancelled classes will allow players to practice at 11 a.m. Tuesday before the team hunkers down for the storm. LSU opens Saturday night at home against North Texas.
