Letter: Stop complaining; take action
Friday, August 31, 2012
I have read several recent letters that repeat the same cry: "How dirty this town is." I wonder if these are the same people who have been crying out how oh-so-bad public (city) workers are.
One main reason that the city looks so bad is the numerous cuts that had to be made, due to the Republicans in Congress blocking any forms of stimulus to the economy. As the stimulus monies that were issued have run out, we are now seeing their effects to the city appearance. This is brought to you by the GOP.
I have a suggestion for all of you who are complaining: Ask yourselves whether or not you are happy about the GOP policies.
Why does the community as a whole not try a new technique? Get up off the couch, go for a walk carrying a trash bag and pick up the trash you see on your walk. What a novel concept: residents taking an active part in taking care of their city. If all the citizens in the USA just did this once a day, think of what a difference it would make.
Will this happen? I doubt it, as it seems that a large majority of Americans prefer to complain instead of actually doing something constructive.
