BENEFIT CHRISTMAS CONCERT, “Christmas with Jim Fischer & Friends,” 3 and 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 4300 Main St. Tickets: $20. Joining Fischer on stage will be the Clark College Chorale (3 p.m.) and the Northwest Harmony Chorus (7 p.m.) plus vocalists Kyra Smith, Trevor Smith, Tobaj and Inessa Crown. The concert is a benefit for Friends of the Carpenter.

VANCOUVER HEIGHTS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, presents the play, “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney, at 7 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Sunday at 5701 MacArthur Blvd. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the performance; music by Danne Presler. ADVENT CONFERENCES begin Sunday at St. James Catholic Church, 218 W. 12th St., with the Rev. Wade Menezes giving a parish mission, “Reality Check — The Four Last Things: Death, Judgment, Heaven, Hell.” Following Mass at 12:10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, there will be a 45-minute advent conference. At 7 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, an evening edition of the advent conference will be presented. Mass begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, with an extended homily. The Rev. Menezes is a member of the Fathers of Mercy, a missionary preaching religious congregation based in Auburn, Ky. 360-693-3052.
