A Vancouver driver was involved in a fatal car crash with a pedestrian in Pacific County on Saturday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Kenneth R. Mathison, 65, was driving a GMC pickup south on state Highway 103 about eight miles north of Long Beach around 5:30 p.m. and hit a pedestrian in the middle of the road, a WSP bulletin said. Mathison didn’t see the pedestrian, identified as Ray A. Berreth, 54, of Seaview, WSP said. Berreth was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for four hours while troopers investigated.

WSP did not recommend charges be filed against Mathison.
