SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The United Soccer Leagues has awarded an expansion USL PRO franchise to Sacramento starting in the 2014 season.

The team will negotiate with Sacramento City College to play matches at Hughes Stadium and hopes to have an agreement finalized early next year.

Sacramento’s USL PRO franchise will plan a series of exhibition matches during 2013 involving domestic and international professional soccer teams. The team will play its first season in 2014.

USL PRO is a minor league below MLS. The league will have 13 teams in 2013, including expansion franchises in Phoenix and Tampa, Fla.
