Mountain View — Sara Pongon and a couple of friends were on their way home from a basketball game at Portland State University on Nov. 20 when they came upon the scene of a wreck on the offramp from Interstate 5 north to state Highway 500 east. The car in front of them had flipped, ejecting both occupants and rolling on top of one of them. Pongon, 17, “got out of the car and started organizing people,” according to proud mom Dawn. “She took charge and they pushed the vehicle off him.” She also rustled up a blanket and kept the victim awake and talking until emergency responders arrived. Dawn said Sara, a senior at Mountain View High School, aspires to be an Army officer. “She’s going to be an excellent leader,” Dawn said.
