Dunbar helps Navy surge past Monmouth (NJ) 85-66

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Tilman Dunbar scored a career-high 20 points with seven assists and Navy overcame a nine-point second-half deficit to surge past Monmouth (N.J.) 85-66 Wednesday night.

The Midshipmen (5-5) who have won three of their last four games, posted their highest point total of the season while shooting 65.5 percent in the second half (19 of 29) and outscoring the Hawks 35-13 in the final 11:34.

Navy also snapped an 18-game losing streak in true road games dating back to the 2011 season opener while ending Monmouth’s four-game winning streak.

The Midshipmen outscored the Hawks 53-29 in the second half.

Thurgood Wynn added 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and Kendall Knorr had 14 points for Navy.

The Midshipmen, who trailed 44-35 with 17:28 left, pulled ahead at 51-50. Monmouth regained the lead on Andrew Nicholas’ 3-pointer with 11:34 left, then Navy pulled away.

Stephen Spinella’s 16 points led the Hawks (5-4).
