Girls basketball: Hockinson 42, Columbia River 41

The visiting Hawks made some key free throws and two defensive stops late to edge the Chieftains. Hockinson made five of seven free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off a Columbia River comeback.

Katelyn McGuire scored 13 points to lead Hockinson, which won despite scoring only two points in the second quarter.

The Hawks held a late six-point lead, but the Chieftains (2-3) pulled within one and had possession with less than 30 seconds to play. A River turnover was followed by a free-throw miss by Hockinson, then a shot for the win at the buzzer for River missed.

Marion Lilly scored 12 points to lead Columbia River.
