KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Sporting Kansas City has acquired midfielder Josh Gardner from the Montreal Impact for the team’s highest pick in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft.

The team announced Wednesday that the option on Gardner’s contract had been exercised and he’s been added to the roster. The 30-year-old Gardner began his career in 2004 with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Gardner played for Seattle before the club joined Major League Soccer, and also played for the Carolina RailHawks before returning to the MLS in 2011 with the Columbus Crew. He was chosen by Montreal in the expansion draft and mad six appearances for the club last season.
