Two Vancouver residents were in a local hospital Sunday night with injuries suffered in an early Sunday morning accident.

Lori Gibson, 48, was in critical condition in the intensive care unit of PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and Paul Gibson, 48, was in satisfactory condition.

The Washington State Patrol said Paul Gibson, with Lori Gibson as a passenger, was driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on state Highway 14 near 164th Avenue at 3 a.m. when he collided with a 2012 Jeep Cherokee driven by Christopher Weddle, 26, of Keizer, Ore.

The patrol said both Jeeps were in the right-hand lane eastbound when Weddle attempted to go around Gibson and the vehicles collided.

Weddle was not injured, the patrol said.

Speed was a factor, the patrol said, and the eastbound right lane was closed for about four hours.

Both Jeeps were totaled.
