Camas is closing in on naming a new city administrator to replace Lloyd Halverson, who’s retiring after 23 years on the job.

The city has narrowed its search for a new city administrator from a pool of 70 applicants to four finalists, who will join city officials Thursday for a breakfast meeting followed by individual tours of the city.

The finalists are: Anna Jatczak, assistant city administrator and chief financial officer of Lincoln, Calif.; Matt Morton, city administrator of Cle Elum; Nina Regor, city manager of Cloverdale, Calif.; and Tonya Wallace, who serves as both financial services manager and strategic planning and budget manager for Boise, Idaho.

A community open house is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Camas Library Community Room, for people to meet the job candidates informally.

On Thursday, after the city tours, the finalists will have interviews with both a staff panel and a community partnership panel. The panels will recommend candidates for individual meetings with the mayor Friday.

Camas Mayor Scott Higgins will make his selection after the meetings.

It will take more than a month for the new administrator to report to work, said Jennifer Gorsuch, Camas’ human resources director. “We hope to have someone on board by the end of January, but will be flexible to allow them time to relocate, complete projects they may have in their home communities,” she said.

Growing city

Halverson announced his retirement at the beginning of the year after shepherding the city through years of growth. The city’s current population is 20,020.

Among the city’s upcoming challenges will be developing 1,100 acres that have been annexed north of Lacamas Lake.

The position will pay between $113,000 and $135,000 per year plus benefits. Halverson made $126,450 in 2011 and will earn $132,464 for 2012, according to the city.

The city scuttled its first attempt to replace Halverson over the summer. At the time, Higgins said neither of the finalists “were the right fit for Camas’ future.”

Waldron & Company, which has offices in Seattle and Portland, is managing the search for the city.
