Richland police employee takes zap from Taser for United Way

RICHLAND — Contributions to the United Way campaign from the Richland Police Department got a jolt when records specialist Amanda Donahoe said she’d take a shock from a Taser gun if the department reached 50 percent participation.

Contributions in past years have been 1 or 2 percent. But the department responded to the challenge and met her goal.

On Monday, Donahoe lived up to her part of the bargain. She took a position on a mat in the station’s training room to receive a three-second zap from a stun gun.

She let out a squeal and felt shaken but said it was a small price to pay for something so important to the community.
