The Washington State Department of Ecology has approved an update of Ridgefield’s Shoreline Master Program.

The program is intended to protect and restore habitat and water quality, as well as provide more certainty for development and recreational activities around Lake River and Gee Creek.

In Clark County and six incorporated cities, the shoreline plans affect close to 370 miles of land along lakes, rivers and streams.

It’s the first comprehensive update of the shoreline program since 1978.
