Alabama State defeats Troy 74-68

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Phillip Crawford led four players in double-figures with 12 points and Alabama State handed Troy its fifth straight loss, beating the Trojans 74-68 Thursday night in a nonconference matchup.

Shawntez Patterson and Stephawn Brown also had 12 while Denzell McDaniel had 10 off the bench. McDaniel posted a game-high six assists for Alabama State, which won its first game of the season.

Alabama State (1-7) held a 42-36 advantage at halftime and quickly pushed its lead to 16, 52-36, after opening the second half with 10 straight points. The Hornets led by 20, 64-44, behind a 3-pointer from Patterson at the 11:27 mark.

Alabama State shot 52 percent (28 of 54), including 10 of 17 from deep, and dished out 19 team assists, compared to just nine for Troy.

Tevin Calhoun had 13 for Troy, which outscored Alabama State 24-10 over the final 11 minutes to create the final margin.
