PORTLAND — Vancouver native Lynn Gust was named president of Portland-based Fred Meyer Stores, parent company The Kroger Co. said Thursday.

Gust, 59, grew up in Vancouver and started his career with Fred Meyer in 1970 as a clerk at its former Fourth Plain Boulevard store. The store has moved to a new site at Grand and Columbia House boulevards off of state Highway 14. Gust succeeds Michael Ellis, who was promoted to an executive post at Kroger headquarters after six years at the company’s helm.

Fred Meyer operates 133 stores in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, including eight in Clark County.
